I walked into Roma Pizza & Pasta with all the skepticism of a man who’s been burned by too many “fancy” Texas Italian joints, and then the pink sauce tortellini arrived and simply refunded my faith. Sherman surprises you like that, keeping its best cards face-down until you’re already seated, whether you’re hunting for a churrasco that wows at Mariscos Ashly or a flawless coffee flan in the moody, railroad-view dining room at Stafford House.

You’ll find everything from absurdly huge strombolis to the perfect funk of homemade kimchi at Teriyaki Jar, and I’ve personally confirmed the beef perfume at One and Only Burgers is worth the trip alone. Go eat.

Huge stromboli portions
Creamy pink sauce tortellini
Kind, attentive service
Worth the skepticism

I walked into Roma Pizza & Pasta with the kind of skepticism I usually reserve for places that claim to have 'NY-style' anything in Texas. Then I ordered the tortellini in pink sauce, and I have to admit, the universe corrected me. The sauce is creamy, rich, and somehow not a cloying mess. The stromboli is absurdly huge, like a delicious dare. When our order hit a small snag, the staff fixed it with a kindness that genuinely surprised me. Service was attentive, warm, and utterly without pretense. I left full, humbled, and already plotting my return. It's real. It's good. Go.

Beef smell hits instantly
Cheap, better than Five Guys
Huge fry bags shareable
Friendly staff, hot food
Killer chipotle fry sauce

The smell of beef hits you the second you walk in the door, and honestly, it's the most honest greeting you'll get in Sherman. One and Only Burgers and Fries is cheap in the best way, and I say this without a shred of loyalty: it's better than Five Guys. The fries come in bags you could use as emergency flotation devices, and the chipotle fry sauce is a weapon of mass deliciousness. Everything arrived hot, the staff was friendly, and not once did I feel like I was being upsold. Just burgers, fries, and that glorious beef perfume. For the price, you'd be a fool to go anywhere else. I'm a convert. I'm also full.

Rigatoni sauce perfectly balanced
Fresh bread, crisp salad
Friendly, accommodating wait staff
Pleasant lunch atmosphere
Best Italian in Texas

La Piazza has no business being this good in Sherman, yet here we are, eating the best Italian I've had in Texas, period. The rigatoni sauce is a study in balance, neither too acidic nor too heavy, just a perfectly sauced pasta dream. The bread is fresh, the salad is crisp, and the wait staff is so accommodating you'd think you were dining in their own grandmother's house. The lunch atmosphere is pleasantly busy without being frantic, a rare feat in this town. I came skeptical, stayed for seconds, and left planning my next excuse to return. If there's a better Italian spot in the state, I haven't found it. And I've looked. I've looked hard.

Sherman’s soulfully tasty fare

La Placita Salvadorean Cocina is where I went expecting a quick lunch and instead got a lesson in soulful cooking. The black bean dip stole the show, no contest, creamy, smoky, and so good I considered asking for a to-go container of just that. The sampler lunch hit every note, a perfect little tour of their kitchen. The family-run service has a heart you can't fake, and the staff's kindness matched the flavor of the food, which is saying something. This is Sherman's soulfully tasty fare, the kind of meal that makes you feel like you've been let in on a secret. I'll be back. I'll bring friends.

House Maduro is amazing
Relaxed, welcoming lounge vibe
Excellent cigar recommendations
Beloved local birthday spot
Owners who truly care

I walked into Ash & Barrel expecting maybe a cigar bar, but I found a community. The House Maduro is genuinely amazing, a smoke so smooth and rich it ruined all other cigars for me, probably forever. The lounge vibe is relaxed and welcoming, the kind of place where you can sit quietly or chat with the owner, who clearly knows his stuff and cares deeply about his shop. It's a beloved local birthday spot, and I can see why after one visit. The staff gave me excellent recommendations, never pushing the pricey stuff. I left feeling like I'd made a friend. That's rare. That's worth a lot.

Perfect for groups and sipping

The Milieu Wine Bar is the rare beast: a quiet escape in Sherman that doesn't feel pretentious or forced. The owner genuinely cares, and it shows in the way she greets you, remembers your order, and makes sure your glass is never empty. The flatbreads and boards are to die for, and I mean that almost literally, I nearly choked on a bite because I was too busy talking about how good it was. It's easy to find, deceptively tucked away, and once you're inside, it feels like a different world. Perfect for groups or just solo sipping. I went alone, felt welcomed, and left with a full heart and a slight buzz.

Korean fries worth repeat orders
Crispy chicken sandwich steals show
Fantastic event space and staff
Reunion hosting handled flawlessly
Food makes up for service quirks

903 Brewers is a brewery, sure, but let me tell you about the Korean fries. Those things deserve their own fan club, crispy, loaded, and worth every repeat order. The crispy chicken sandwich stole the show for me, a juicy, spicy, crunchy monster that made me forget I was in a taproom. The event space is fantastic, and the staff handled our reunion with a level of professionalism that surprised everyone. The food genuinely makes up for any service quirks, and there are quirks, but you'll forgive them when you're chewing on that sandwich. I'd come back for the fries alone. I'd come back for the beer. I'll come back for both.

Highlights
Pies outperform the cakes
Coconut cream earns genuine raves
Decorations arrive exactly as ordered
Sweetness might overwhelm delicate palates
Texture didn't match the pretty face

Mom's Bakery is a study in contradictions. The pies outperform the cakes, which is saying something because everything in that display case looks like a magazine cover. The coconut cream is the real deal, earning genuine raves from everyone at my table. But here's the thing: the decorations arrive exactly as ordered, perfect and pretty, yet the texture didn't quite match the beauty. A bit dry, a bit too sweet for delicate palates. Still, I'd go back for that coconut cream, and I'd steer you away from the overly ambitious cake. Mom's knows what she's doing with the pies. Trust the pies.

Churrasco that wows
Authentic Jamaican drink
Potato salad perfected
Tostadas to die for
Huge, seasoned portions

Mariscos ashly restaurant is the kind of place where you order the churrasco on a whim and then spend the rest of your life trying to recreate it. It wows. The meat is huge, seasoned perfectly, and served with a potato salad that I would commit minor crimes for. They even have an authentic Jamaican drink that took me straight back to the island, which I did not expect in Sherman. The tostadas are to die for, crunchy and loaded. Portions are generous to the point of absurdity. I left stuffed, puzzled by the name, and thoroughly delighted. This is not a place to skip. This is a destination.

Highlights
Authentic homemade kimchi
Gracious lunch portions
Consistently tasty bulgogi
Lovely, friendly staff
Worth the detour

Teriyaki Jar is worth the detour, and trust me, I don't detour lightly. The bulgogi is consistently tasty, sweet-salty and tender, but the real star is the homemade kimchi. It's authentic, tangy, and has that perfect funk you only get from something made with actual love. The lunch portions are gracious, almost absurdly so, and the staff is so lovely and friendly that you feel bad for not coming more often. I've eaten a lot of Korean food, and this holds up. If you're in Sherman and craving something beyond burgers, this is your place. I'll be back. Probably this week.

Private bays, whole place yours
Clean, modern, easy booking
Great parent-kid bonding spot
Beginner-friendly gear instructions
Perfect repeat family tradition

I booked a private bay at The Birdie Den with my kid, and honestly, I was expecting chaos. What I got was a clean, modern space that felt like the whole place was ours. The bays are private, the booking was effortless, and the instructions for the gear were so beginner-friendly that even my coordination-challenged self didn't hit the ceiling. It's the perfect parent-kid bonding spot, one of those rare activities where you're both equally terrible and equally laughing. We've already made it a tradition, and the fact that it's easy to reserve means we'll actually go. No fuss, no frustration. Just fun. Maybe I'll even get a hole-in-one. Don't bet on it.

Ribeye and twice-baked potato
Dark, intimate, beautiful interior
Coffee flan dessert perfection
Historic railroad-view dining room
Friendly, knowledgeable service

Stafford House Provisions is the kind of place you'd walk past a thousand times and never guess hides a rail-view dining room this dark and intimate. The ribeye arrived properly seared, and the twice-baked potato was a guilty pleasure that had me scraping the skin. But the real MVP was the coffee flan, a dessert so smooth and bitter-sweet it made me forget the entire meal that preceded it. The staff knew their stuff, answering questions with genuine enthusiasm rather than scripted nonsense. It's a beautiful interior, all history and moody shadows, and the railroad view just adds to the romance. I left feeling like I'd discovered a secret. I will not be telling everyone.
